"Secretariat" is the name given to the local leadership group, charged with the life and direction of the movement. It accepts
responsibility to guard the identity, mission and purpose of Heart of Illinois Via de Cristo.
The members are selected from the Via de Cristo community and commissioned to direct, coordinate, inspire, and serve the
movement so they can serve the life and ministry of the Church. All leaders on the secretariat have demonstrated through
their service to their church their commitment to Jesus Christ. Their natural and spiritual gifts need to be apparent to the
movement. The guiding power of the secretariat is the same power that Jesus uses to develop and guide the Church, the power
to serve faithfully and selflessly (Ephesians 1:19). The secretariat serves the community by the grace provided through the
Holy Spirit.
